Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom– REVIEW

I’ve asked my friends about this game and they all say the same thing: “It’s Zelda: A Link To The Past.” . . . yes. . . yes it is. . . but is that really a bad thing, guys?  Yes, there are a lot of similarities between this game and Zelda: A Link To The Past, but, to be totally fair, there are also quite a few differences, and personally I like to view games in their own light, rather than comparing them to what has gone before.

Zelda: A Link To The Past definitely is one of the quintessential top down RPG adventure games of all time, and tons of gamers look for a similar experience to the one offered by A Link To The Past. If you’re one of them, I reckon you’re going to like Adventure Tim: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom quite a lot.

In it you play as Finn (a character who is absolutely nothing like Link from A Link To The Past). Finn is partnered with his dog Jake, who acts as a shield and also has other important abilities that you will learn as you play. Finn can buy items and weapons while he explores, and you can hotkey those items to two buttons. You’ll need to swap the buttons dependent on the situation you’re in.

The game lacks a sense of direction, and personally I love that. It lets you explore at your own pace, so there’s a genuine sense of freedom. If you’ve played Dark Souls you’ll know what I’m talking about. In Dark Souls you’re free to do as you please. Dark Souls has a great sense of freedom, which is one reason why it’s such a popular game. Just like Dark Souls, freedom reigns in The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom. You are given hints as to where to go, but that’s about it.

Similar to Dark Souls 2, Adventure Time provides a sense of exploratory freedom

Probably the best part of this game are the dungeons. They’re designed fabulously. As you slay monsters, solve problems and collect items, new areas of dungeons wil lopen up, giving you new areas to explore. Much like in the Zelda games, you’ll have to find specific items in order to pass the dungeons.

Adventure Time does a fabulous job of recreating the sort of experience we all felt playing Zelda: A Link To The Past. And surely that can only be a good thing!
